Net pay is only half the relocation story
A higher net paycheck in a cheaper area can improve life dramatically. A higher net paycheck in a much more expensive city might still leave less monthly surplus.
Build a simple monthly budget template: housing, utilities, insurance, transportation, childcare, and debt payments.
Tax savings are real but not automatic wins
Moving to a lower-tax state can help, but insurance, housing, and state-specific fees may rise. Compare realistic rent or mortgage payments, not headline averages from online indexes alone.
If you keep a remote job while moving, withholding and residency rules may complicate the picture.
